HISTORY |
Richard Gardner opened his doors in December 1976 with only
one desk, a kitchen chair for himself and two lawn chairs
for his clients. He didn’t have enough money to buy
a table for his $295 copier, so it just sat on the floor.
With a $20 hand held calculator and pencil, he prepared
all tax returns by hand. Many of his clients still remember
that humble beginning. The first full tax year, January
'77 to April '77, Richard did 76 returns and grossed $2479.
Now his office does over 6000 returns a year.
Gardner's Tax Service, Inc. has grown over the years to
become one of the largest accounting and tax firms in the
State of Oklahoma. The client base has increased dramatically
from its meager beginnings to over 6,000. The scope of services
for each client varies from a mere short form to complete
corporate accounting and tax support. The reasons for this
growth lie in the unpretentious yet professional attitude
of Richard Gardner and his staff. Clients feel welcomed
and develop a sense of confidence in the service provided.
In January of 1998, Gardner's Tax Service, Inc. became one
of a handful of businesses nationwide which successfully
won a case involving an unjustified raid by the IRS. This
case started in March of 1995 when twenty IRS agents and
US Marshals raided Gardner's office, confiscating all records
and computers. Allegation of tax fraud in a twenty-three
count indictment later proved to be erroneous and malicious.
Richard Gardner personally testified before the United States
Senate Finance Committee during hearing involving these
cases. In April 1998 the case was not only dismissed but
legal action was taken by Richard against the IRS which
proved to be successful. Richard Gardner was the 1st American
to win a judgment under the Hyde Amendment. He recovered
a monetary judgment from the IRS. |
